Malcolm Holland
Chairman of the Board, CEO and President of Veritex

Malcolm received his BBA from SMU in 1982. He began his banking career at First City Bank as a credit analyst and commercial lender, and then moved to Capital Bank in 1984 as vice president of commercial lending. In September 1985, he became an organizer and executive vice president of EastPark National Bank, a de novo bank that opened in May 1986. Fidelity Bank purchased EastPark in February 1995, and Mr. Holland became executive vice president, head of commercial lending. In February 1998, Fidelity Bank was sold to Compass Bank, where he served as senior vice president, head of business banking. In July 2000, Mr. Holland accepted the position of president of First Mercantile Bank. In March 2002, First Mercantile Bank was acquired by Colonial Bank with Mr. Holland serving as senior lender. He was appointed to CEO of the Texas Region of Colonial Bank in March 2003. In October 2009, Mr. Holland formed Veritex Holdings, Inc. and subsequently purchased Veritex Bank in September 2010.

Malcolm is very active in the community, including serving as chairman of the Operations Team of Watermark Community Church. He is also past president of both Lakewood Country Club and the Texas Golf Association.

Malcolm and his wife have two adult children. Malcolm’s son is a professional golfer and his daughter is a teacher at a DISD Magnet school.


James Miller
Chief Lending Officer

James heads up the lending effort at Veritex Community Bank as well as serving on the Veritex Board of Directors. Previously, he was Professional Bank’s chief executive officer. Before Professional Bank, James was president and CEO of Security Bank, a community bank based in Garland with locations in Dallas, Collin and Hunt counties. Under his leadership, Security Bank enjoyed significant growth and profitability and was ultimately acquired by Citibank.

Raised in Garland, James has helped North Texas communities throughout his 25-year banking career. James has served in a variety of charitable and business-related groups such as the Garland Chamber of Commerce, Noon Exchange Club of Garland, New Beginning Center, Baylor Medical Center of Garland Board of Directors, Salvation Army, YMCA and the Garland Economic Development Council.

James has a degree in finance from Texas Tech University and is a graduate of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking. He lives in Garland with his wife. They have three grown children and one granddaughter.


LaVonda Renfro
EVP, Chief Retail Officer

LaVonda brings over 30 years of banking experience to the Veritex leadership team. She worked for Bank of America for 25 years in positions of wide-ranging responsibility and authority. Her dedication to her customers has earned her an impressive resume of corporate excellence and customer service awards. Before joining Veritex Community Bank, she served as the retail executive for the $1.6 billion asset size Texas region of BB&T (formerly Colonial Bank).

At Veritex, she is responsible for the overall administration and coordination of the activities of the bank branches, including operations and sales/marketing. Her position as retail executive includes the management of the following areas/lines of business: deposit operations, merchant services, private banking, business banking and treasury management.

LaVonda and her husband live east of Dallas and they have three children.


Angela Harper
EVP, Credit Risk Officer

With over 22 years of banking experience, Angela is responsible for managing Veritex’s underwriting team and loan operations department. Additionally, she is the compliance officer at Veritex Community Bank. Angela is the former SVP/credit administration manager of Colonial Bank’s Texas Region. She began her banking career as an OCC bank examiner in Dallas. Her experience includes commercial credit administration, loan review and regulatory compliance. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a BBA in finance in 1989 and an MBA in 1990.

Angela lives north of Dallas with her husband and their three children. She is a past board member for Habitat for Humanity, Dallas, former member and board member of the Dallas Area Compliance Association, current trustee of First Christian Church of Allen, and current treasurer for her son’s Boy Scout Troop.


Tom Freas
EVP, Chief Financial Officer

Tom Freas is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, at Veritex Community Bank. Prior to this appointment, he was Chief Executive Officer and President of Fidelity Fidelity Bank. Tom brings with him a wealth of experience and management expertise. He has over 30 years banking experience at money center, regional and community banks with a resume ranging from commercial lending, managed assets, credit approval, capital markets, operations, investments and finance. Tom holds a BA and MBA Butler University.
